The youngest of five children, Andrew was a sickly child who had to be pulled out of school after contracting whooping cough. He was home-schooled by his parents in every subject including art education. His father, Newel Convers Wyeth, was a well known illustrator whose art was featured in many magazines, calendars, posters and murals. Andrew had a vivid memory and fantastic imagination that led to a great fascination for art. His father recognized an obvious raw talent that had to be nurtured. While his father taught him the basics of traditional academic drawing Andrew began painting watercolor studies of the rocky coast and the sea in Port Clyde Maine. He worked primarily in watercolors and egg tempera and often used shades of brown and grey. He held his first one-man show of watercolors painted around the family’s summer home at Port Clyde, Maine in 1937. It was a great success that would lead to many more. Wyeth married Betsey James at the age of twenty-two and had two boys, Nicholas who became an art dealer, and James who became the third generation artist in his family. Andrew was featured on the cover of American Artist as well as many other famous magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post that displayed his painting "The Hunter". His first solo museum exhibition was presented in 1951 at the Farnsworth Art Museum. Since then he has seen many more successes and is considered one of the most "collectible" living artist’s of our time.
Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner\r
\r
About the Artist
Frederick Childe Hassam (b. Ray is highly regarded for his detailed rural landscapes and antique still lifes. However, he explains, the real subject of my work is not the aging farm buildings, the rustic old mills or the antiqued crocks and jugs. The real subject is their surfaces. “I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware…the signs of wear and hard use. How many stories they must have to tell”. \rOver the years, Ray has developed a number of texturing methods to accurately depict these signs of aging. He compiled many of them in a book titled, “Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors”, published by Northlight and released in November of 1999 (now out of print).\rRay’s work has been published, as prints, by Primrose Press, Galaxy of Graphics, and most recently, by Bruce McGaw Graphics. His work has appeared in many books and magazines such as Splash 3, Splash 4, Splash 9, Palette Talk, Bucks Country Magazine, County Line Magazine, American Artist, Artist’s Magazine and Chinese Watercolor, an art magazine published in Beijing, China.\rRay is represented by several galleries in southeastern Pennsylvania. He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (also awarded Sylvan Grouse Guild member status of the society), The Philadelphia Watercolor Society (recipient of the Crest Award for continued excellence), and the International Society of Acrylic Painters. He has been the recipient of many awards for his work in national and international exhibitions and has had numerous one-man shows. He is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”. After receiving a degree from the Department of Stage Design, Shanghai Theatre Academy (famous for its Western-style landscape painting training program), he was appointed to teach painting and stage design there. In 1986, he relocated to the United States after receiving an invitation to give his first solo exhibition in New York.\r\rZhen-Huan Lu’s disciplined background in life study, western painting techniques and both western and eastern aesthetics, led to his development of a unique American style of poetic realism that aims to make visible the invisibles through his skillful portrayal of familiar scenes and objects. His training also led him to develop equal skill in watercolor, egg tempera, and oil painting; three disparate and difficult media to master.\r\rAlthough people are never depicted in his landscape paintings, Lu’s keen interest remains in human life and emotions; whether it be rocking chairs on the porch on a lazy afternoon or a pair of oars against an aged beach house, human spirit is always present. Through his masterful technique, Zhen-Huan Lu captures a world beyond the obvious with close-ups and exquisite details.\r\rZhen-Huan Lu’s paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and China. \r
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0223/4033/products/Z188_64c63c7b-3ffe-4734-8eeb-3534a0c5ed59.jpg?v=1599056617
ray-hendershot-breaking-light
Breaking Light
© Ray Hendershot\r
\r
About the Artist
The Pennsylvania countryside, its inhabitants and their way of life provide the subject matter for this watercolor artist. July 22, 1882, Nyack, N.Y., U.S. — d. May 15, 1967, New York, N.Y.) was an American painter. He was initially trained as an illustrator but later studied painting with Robert Henri. In 1913 he exhibited in the Armory Show but spent much of his time on advertising art and illustrative etchings. In the mid 1920s he turned to watercolours and oil paintings of urban life. His House by the Railroad (1925) and Room in Brooklyn (1932) depict still, anonymous figures within geometric building forms, producing the haunting sense of isolation that was to be his hallmark. He used light to isolate figures and objects, as in Early Sunday Morning (1930) and Nighthawks (1942). His major work, a color-plate book entitled The Birds of America (1827–1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. This monumental work consists of 435 hand-colored, life-size prints of 497 bird species, made from engraved copper plates of various sizes depending on the size of the image. Audubon developed his own methods for drawing birds. First, he killed them using fine shot. He then used wires to prop them into a natural position, unlike the common method of many ornithologists, who prepared and stuffed the specimens into a rigid pose. When working on a major specimen like an eagle, he would spend up to four 15-hour days, preparing, studying, and drawing it. His paintings of birds are set true-to-life in their natural habitat. He often portrayed them as if caught in motion, especially feeding or hunting, basing his paintings on his extensive field observations. Audubon's influence on ornithology and natural history was far reaching. Nearly all later ornithological works were inspired by his artistry and high standards. As he studied the Renaissance master’s paintings his thoughts were only on how much he enjoyed doing it. In his twenties, this Minnesota native began concentrating on painting animals and wildlife, discovering that people really appreciated the realism and natural beauty he brought to his subjects. He painted wildlife in natural settings, bringing the viewer into remote scenes untouched by humankind. Now Kevin has returned to the romantic creativeness of the masters’ portraits he studied as a teen. He has turned his camera on family and friends to feature real people in his paintings. Kevin has become increasingly interested in children as subjects for his portraits because he senses in them an innocence and carefree existence that is readily identifiable. Kevin recalls real life situations to bring the most honesty he can to his imagined settings. If people feel as excited about viewing his paintings as he does when creating them, he is satisfied.\r\rInspired by the vastness of beauty and grace in nature, Kevin Daniel has focused on painting wildlife in their nature surroundings, discovering in the process, that people are drawn to and appreciate the realism and authenticity he brings to his subjects. His paintings take the viewer into remote environs untouched by humankind, deep into forests full of wildlife or high into the mountains where vistas leave you breathless.\r\rKevin draws from real life scenes in order to bring the utmost honesty and realism he can to his imagined settings. The result is a new series of paintings full of wonder and preciously captured moments in time; wonders of nature that may be cherished for eternity. near Anamosa, Iowa, U.S. — died Feb. 12, 1942, Iowa City, Iowa) was an American painter. He was trained as a craftsman and designer as well as a painter. On a visit to Germany in 1928, he was strongly influenced by the sharp detail of 15th-century German and Flemish paintings, and he soon abandoned his Impressionist manner for the detailed, realistic manner for which he is known. His American Gothic caused a sensation when exhibited in 1930. A telling portrait of the sober, hardworking Midwestern farmer, it has become one of the best-known icons of U.S. art, though it is often misinterpreted: the woman is not the man's wife but rather the unmarried daughter designated to stay on the farm to assist her widowed father.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0223/4033/products/W1770_a23bd036-f87d-4376-9b4c-5a7e5cc392c2.jpg?v=1599061102
john-james-audubon-bay-breasted-warbler
Bay-Breasted Warbler
© John James Audubon\r
\r
About the Artist
John James Audubon was a French American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He is known for his expansive studies to document all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. He is known for his expansive studies to document all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. Charles Darwin quoted Audubon three times in On the Origin of Species and also in later works. Despite some errors in field observations, he made a significant contribution to the understanding of bird anatomy and behavior through his field notes. Though he was recognized in his lifetime as a leading U.S. painter, appreciation of his enormous achievement came only after his death.\r
© Barbara Jeffords\r
\r
About the Artist
Barbara Jeffords grew up in a quaint little town in southern Indiana. \r
© Ray Hendershot\r
\r
About the Artist
The Pennsylvania countryside, its inhabitants and their way of life provide the subject matter for this watercolor artist.
