About the Artist

Born in Ithaca, New York, Hannah migrated slowly west to California, spending most of her childhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The daughter of two English professors, she grew up appreciating the beauty, power, and playfulness of language, all of which she incorporates in her artwork. As a child, Hannah also loved to spend time in her father’s vegetable garden, captivated by the strikingly different colors and shapes she found there—the vivid scarlet of ripe tomatoes, the tall green stalks and dangling tassels of corn, the rich purple fruit of eggplants. Hannah received her B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Iowa, where she_studied textiles and painting. She went on to receive an M.F.A. from the California_College of the Arts in Textiles and Sculpture and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Art_Therapy from the University of California at Berkeley. From printmaking to collage, Hannah’s work involves a range of materials and has been exhibited widely both in the United States and abroad. Committed to creating beauty in an ever changing world, Hannah lives in Davis, CA, a literal hot-bed of plant life.
