He is most known for his iconic images of food, rendered in a style which may have stemmed from his early experience as a freelance cartoonist in the late 1930's.While serving in the army from 1942 to 1945, Thiebaud was able to flex his artistic muscles by working as a cartoonist and painting murals for the officers' club and the post theater before being assigned to the first Motion Picture Unit in Culver City, California. In 1946, while employed as a cartoonist, he also took a job as an advertising artist in Hollywood for Universal Studios. In 1949 Thiebaud enrolled at California State University at San Jose, transferring to the University at Sacramento, where he received a B.A. in 1951 and an M.A. in 1952. During his college years he worked on commissions for the California State Fair and Exposition, serving as a design and art consultant. He taught studio art and art history at Sacramento City College from 1951 to 1959, becoming chairman of the department in 1954. From 1959 to 1972, he taught at the University of California at Davis. In 1968 he represented the United States in the Sao Paulo Biennal in Brazil. In 1981 the College Art Association named Thiebaud the most distinguished studio teacher of the year. In 1985 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.Thiebaud is best known for his still life paintings of everyday objects like sandwiches, gumball machines, toys, cafeteria-type foods, and especially thickly painted cakes and pies. His work illustrates a more nostalgic rather than satirical depiction of American consumerism, which was a staple of other artists of the Pop movement in the 1960's. He later went on to paint San Francisco landscapes in the 1970's. His most recent works are brilliantly colored semi-abstract California landscapes.
©/®/™ 2026
The
Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. In 1945 he entered the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) where he majored in pictorial design. Upon graduation, Warhol moved to New York where he found steady work as a commercial artist. He worked as an illustrator for several magazines including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker and did advertising and window displays for retail stores such as Bonwit Teller and I. Miller. Prophetically, his first assignment was for Glamour magazine for an article titled "Success is a Job in New York."

Throughout the 1950s, Warhol enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist, winning several commendations from the Art Director's Club and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. In these early years, he shortened his name to "Warhol." In 1952, the artist had his first individual show at the Hugo Gallery, exhibiting Fifteen Drawings Based on the Writings of Truman Capote. His work was exhibited in several other venues during the 1950s, including his first group show at The Museum of Modern Art in 1956.

The 1960s was an extremely prolific decade for Warhol. Appropriating images from popular culture, Warhol created many paintings that remain icons of 20th-century art, such as the Campbell's Soup Cans, Disasters and Marilyns. In addition to painting, Warhol made several 16mm films, which have become underground classics such as Chelsea Girls, Empire and Blow Job. In 1968, Valerie Solanis, founder and sole member of SCUM (Society for Cutting Up Men) walked into Warhol's studio, known as the Factory, and shot the artist. The attack was nearly fatal.

At the start of the 1970s, Warhol began publishing Interview magazine and renewed his focus on painting. Works created in this decade include Maos, Skulls, Hammer and Sickles, Torsos and Shadows and many commissioned portraits. Warhol also published The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (from A to B and Back Again). Firmly established as a major 20th-century artist and international celebrity, Warhol exhibited his work extensively in museums and galleries around the world.

The artist began the 1980s with the publication of POPism: The Warhol '60s and with exhibitions of Portraits of Jews of the Twentieth Century and the Retrospectives and Reversal series. He also created two cable television shows, "Andy Warhol's TV" in 1982 and "Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes" for MTV in 1986. His paintings from the 1980s include The Last Suppers, Rorschachs and, in a return to his first great theme of Pop, a series called Ads. Warhol also engaged in a series of collaborations with younger artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente and Keith Haring.

Following routine gall bladder surgery, Andy Warhol died February 22, 1987. After his burial in Pittsburgh, his friends and associates organized a memorial mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York that was attended by more than 2,000 people.

In late 1987, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts was duly incorporated in accordance with Warhol’s will, whose mission is for the advancement of the visual arts. After receiving a degree from the Department of Stage Design, Shanghai Theatre Academy (famous for its Western-style landscape painting training program), he was appointed to teach painting and stage design there. In 1986, he relocated to the United States after receiving an invitation to give his first solo exhibition in New York.\r\rZhen-Huan Lu’s disciplined background in life study, western painting techniques and both western and eastern aesthetics, led to his development of a unique American style of poetic realism that aims to make visible the invisibles through his skillful portrayal of familiar scenes and objects. His training also led him to develop equal skill in watercolor, egg tempera, and oil painting; three disparate and difficult media to master.\r\rAlthough people are never depicted in his landscape paintings, Lu’s keen interest remains in human life and emotions; whether it be rocking chairs on the porch on a lazy afternoon or a pair of oars against an aged beach house, human spirit is always present. Through his masterful technique, Zhen-Huan Lu captures a world beyond the obvious with close-ups and exquisite details.\r\rZhen-Huan Lu’s paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and China. \r
Image © Norfolk Boy\r
\r
About the Artist
Working with recycled wood and spraypaint, Norfolk boy creates unique works using a mixed media approach mixing paint and iconic British imagery.\r\rNorfolk boy has been working as a self-employed artist for over a decade. His father was a military colonel, while his mother was a professional sculptor. Early on, McGee learned to explore the artistic pursuits of his mother, while always bringing the strict, productive rigor of his father to his creativity. He began sketching and sculpting at an early age, receiving great encouragement from his parents and friends.During his sophomore year at the University of Mobile, Alabama, McGee formally began his training in art, taking several courses in still life and figural painting. He quickly gained recognition locally as a vibrant and prolific painter. A minor concentration in Theater provided McGee with additional techniques in makeup and set design. In 1861, against the wishes of his father, he followed Zola to Paris to become a painter and met Camille Pissarro and others of the Impressionist group. He remained an outsider to their circle because his earliest works, which exhibition committees consistently rejected, were Expressionistic. In the early 1870s he experimented with Impressionism, then later delved into Classicism, with more balanced and formal compositions. Toward the end of his life he was at his most daring, reducing architecture and figures to geometric forms and paving the way for Cubism.\r\rCezanne was an artist's artist, and his restrained pictures are impersonal and remote - much like his personality. His art, misunderstood and discredited by the public during most of his life, eventually challenged all the conventional values of painting in the 19th century through his insistence on personal expression and on the integrity of the painting itself. forms of printmaking, painting and collage. He often uses antique papers, vintage books and other ephemera in his work. Each new piece begins with either a sketch or an idea about colors, and it always comes from a direct experience with the real world. Cezanne transformed the ideals of 19th century painting and influenced the aesthetic development of many 20th century artists and art movements, especially Cubism.\r\rBorn in Aix-en-Provence to wealthy parents, he befriended the novelist Emile Zola as a schoolboy.

Product Detail

Overall: 16" H x 13" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High-quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, gold, and white

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner\r

Product Detail

Overall: 16" H x 13" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, gold, and white

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

\r
\r
About the Artist
Today print lovers enjoy the vintage flavor Steinlen's work offers to any room. The stylized graphics and decorative costumes of the figures in his prints add a touch of nostalgia to a wall. Grouped along with the prints of Cheret and Toulouse-Lautrec, you can give a room the feeling of a Parisian cafe easily.\r\rSteinlen often used his wife, child, and family cats as models to create images with a certain intimacy, which differ from fellow illustrator Toulouse-Lautrec's cold, harsh depictions of cabaret life. Steinlen's illustrations have a personal, intimate style that evince a concern for humanitarian issues.\r\rBorn in Switzerland Steinlen studied philosophy at the University of Lausanne, which engendered an interest in socialist causes. The artist moved to Paris in 1881 and was introduced to the avant-garde literary and artistic world of the Chat Noir cabaret. There he mingled with the illustrator Adolphe Willete, the singer/songwriter Aristide Bruant, and the idiosynchratic Toulouse-Lautrec. The influence of his peers can be clearly seen in the subject matter as well as the style of his artwork. This expertise supported his new exploration of mixed media constructions, integrating oil, wood, and metal.Constantly craving new ways to link contemporary expressions to traditional art, McGee hopes to spend an extended period of time studying in Italy, where he will search out artistic artifacts as well as fresh inspiration. He also intends to explore his own family history in Ireland.
