The youngest of five children, Andrew was a sickly child who had to be pulled out of school after contracting whooping cough. He was home-schooled by his parents in every subject including art education. His father, Newel Convers Wyeth, was a well known illustrator whose art was featured in many magazines, calendars, posters and murals. Andrew had a vivid memory and fantastic imagination that led to a great fascination for art. His father recognized an obvious raw talent that had to be nurtured. While his father taught him the basics of traditional academic drawing Andrew began painting watercolor studies of the rocky coast and the sea in Port Clyde Maine. He worked primarily in watercolors and egg tempera and often used shades of brown and grey. He held his first one-man show of watercolors painted around the family’s summer home at Port Clyde, Maine in 1937. It was a great success that would lead to many more. Wyeth married Betsey James at the age of twenty-two and had two boys, Nicholas who became an art dealer, and James who became the third generation artist in his family. Andrew was featured on the cover of American Artist as well as many other famous magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post that displayed his painting "The Hunter". His first solo museum exhibition was presented in 1951 at the Farnsworth Art Museum. Since then he has seen many more successes and is considered one of the most "collectible" living artist’s of our time.
©/®/™ 2026
The
Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.

About the Artist
Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1928. Beginning in 1951, he worked with Eugene Delcroix, a N.O. photographer who was a master of light and composition, and who specialized in soft focus images. In 1971, he studied with Ansel Adams in California at one of the last courses the artist himself taught. He has also been a pupil of Michael A. Smith of Ottsville, Pennsylvania-a master of large format photography-who in 1986 photographed New Orleans for the Historic collection. In 1999 he participated in a Santa Fe workshop on digital photography.\r\rBert’s first one man show was in 1976, at the Gallery Studio 8 in New Orleans. The images in that exposition were mostly scenics in the Adams tradition. In 1978, he began experimenting with using X ray as an art medium, developing the technique of taking radiographs of shells, flowers, and other objects and making B + W positive prints of them. Although the technique is not original, it is quite difficult and not widely done. He wrote an article describing the technique, which was published in Applied Radiology, and articles about his methods have appeared in Medical World News, Art Center and the Free University in N.O., and for 9 years taught a course in advanced darkroom techniques in the Univ. College of Tulane University.\r\rSince 1986 he has been using Cibachrome techniques to make radiographic images in color, including montages of straight photo images with xrays.\r\rBeginning in 1985 he worked with high contrast internegatives and have a large collection of line derivations and solarizations, mainly of historic buildings.\r\rFrom 1987-1997, he became interested in holography and took courses in the subject from Dr. T. Jeong at Lake Forest College in Illinois and Jeffrey Murray at the Holography Institute in Petaluma, California. He started the Holography research Laboratory at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in N.O. and pursued the uses of holography in medicine, especially in education. He has developed techniques of making 3D images of bones, medical models, and human tissue which had been preserved by plastination, and had shows of his work in galleries in the USA, Scotland, and Hungary. Appropriately, it is one of his pictures, Impression: Sunrise, which gave the group of artists painting in this style its name.\r\rBorn in Paris, Monet attended L’Academie Suisse from 1859-60 and subsequently enrolled in the studio of Glenyre, where he met Renoir and Sisley, with whom he formed the nucleus of the Impressionist group. He organized the first Impressionist exhibit in 1874 and became the group’s leader, initiator and unswerving advocate. Monet moved to Giverny in 1883, planting the extensive gardens and lily ponds that would provide the inspiration for his later works.\r\rFrom 1890 he concentrated on a series of pictures in which he painted the same subject at different times of the day in different light. The most popular of these are the Haystacks and Rouen Cathedral series. He continued to travel widely, visiting London and Venice several times, yet increasingly he focused his attention on Giverny. After graduating, however, she spent several years following opportunities in the business and tech industries. Then in 2006 she came back to her love of art, embracing a new career as a full time artist, which she still enjoys today. Preferring to paint from memory, Jennifer layers thin and thick applications of acrylic paint, focusing on the variety of texture and color of the piece in combination with the natural forms of the composition. Trained by abstract expressionists, she paints quickly preferring a gestural style giving her paintings a whimsical fun energy. Her award winning work is well loved and collected worldwide as well as locally in the Northwest where she spends most her time. Over the years, Jennifer has lived in Seattle, Bellingham, and the Skagit Valley. As he studied the Renaissance master’s paintings his thoughts were only on how much he enjoyed doing it. In his twenties, this Minnesota native began concentrating on painting animals and wildlife, discovering that people really appreciated the realism and natural beauty he brought to his subjects. He painted wildlife in natural settings, bringing the viewer into remote scenes untouched by humankind. Now Kevin has returned to the romantic creativeness of the masters’ portraits he studied as a teen. He has turned his camera on family and friends to feature real people in his paintings. Kevin has become increasingly interested in children as subjects for his portraits because he senses in them an innocence and carefree existence that is readily identifiable. Kevin recalls real life situations to bring the most honesty he can to his imagined settings. If people feel as excited about viewing his paintings as he does when creating them, he is satisfied.\r\rInspired by the vastness of beauty and grace in nature, Kevin Daniel has focused on painting wildlife in their nature surroundings, discovering in the process, that people are drawn to and appreciate the realism and authenticity he brings to his subjects. His paintings take the viewer into remote environs untouched by humankind, deep into forests full of wildlife or high into the mountains where vistas leave you breathless.\r\rKevin draws from real life scenes in order to bring the utmost honesty and realism he can to his imagined settings. The result is a new series of paintings full of wonder and preciously captured moments in time; wonders of nature that may be cherished for eternity. Her paintings convey a certain energy and spontaneity that draws the viewer into her work whether it be a landscape, interior, still life or abstract. Her style brings energy and excitement to the canvas in a very creative, artistic way that is all her own.\r\rAlthough Libby spends a great deal of her time painting she also finds joy in sharing her knowledge with others by teaching workshops or helping individuals. That experience taught him how to think fast, work in difficult situations, compose quickly, and above all, to be patient, which has been a huge benefit when working in landscape photography.\r\rIf there's a theme that runs through his photographs, it's the theme of Beauty. Inspired by the quiet beauty of the landscape, he often looks for large, bold areas of color in his images, and a sense of order in the natural world. Hudson started out using black and white film and printing in a traditional wet darkroom; color printing was expensive and difficult to do correctly. Today though, more of his images are in color than black and white. But, due to his monochrome 'upbringing', he still shoots very selectively– there has to be a good reason to shoot in color.\r\rMichael Hudson has been a professional photographer for over twenty years. It has allowed him to work on commercial assignments, while giving him the freedom to travel the world in search of beauty. His fine art images hang in private and corporate collections, and have been used on numerous book covers and in magazines. Hudson was born in Sydney, Australia, and grew up in Australia, the United States, and England, eventually settling in Illinois. His Post-Impressionist work hauntingly conveyed through forceful color, aggressive brushwork and contoured forms, the anguish of a mental illness that eventually resulted in suicide.After failing in both his career and love life, van Gogh turned inward, pursuing a position in the ministry. In 1880, disenchanted with priesthood, he discovered art as his new mission. The artist's earliest works were scenes of peasant life, but after a trip to Paris in 1886, where he encountered the works of the Impressionists and the Japanese prints en vogue at the time, he dramatically transformed his style from darkly colored realism to vibrant expressionism.Inspired by the beauty of rural Arles, he moved there in 1888, but continued to struggle with nervous crisis and depression, and after one particularly severe episode, committed himself to an asylum at St. Remy. While hospitalized, he continued to paint and produced one of his most compelling works, The Starry Night. After his death, van Gogh's powerful compositions and expressive use of color greatly influenced Expressionism.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0223/4033/products/V401_cf62e130-d2d6-4027-b98d-cd77fba68a7d.jpg?v=1597348192
claude-monet-the-house-among-the-roses-between-1917-and-1919
The House Among the Roses, between 1917 and 1919
Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner\r
\r
About the Artist
Oscar Claude Monet is considered the archetypal Impressionist, with his devotion to painting the transient effects of light and color "en plein air" unwaveringly throughout his long career. His first published works, prints of kabuki actors, appeared the following year. He soon turned to historical and landscape subjects and prints of children. He developed an eclectic style and achieved success with book illustrations and surimono prints ("printed things" for special occasions, such as cards and announcements), picture books and novelettes, erotic books and album prints, paintings, and ink sketches. He experimented with Western-style perspective and use of colour and later concentrated on samurai themes and Chinese subjects. His Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (1826 – 33), a series of prints, marked a summit in the history of the Japanese landscape print; in grandeur of concept and skill of execution there was little approaching it before and nothing to surpass it later. Working in an exaggerated scale, O’Keeffe achieved timeless abstractions by reducing her subjects to their simplest form and color.Born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, O’Keeffe studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the New York Art Students League under the direction of William Merritt Chase. At a time when women were strongly discouraged from pursuing careers, O’Keeffe embarked on a path that ultimately led to her recognition as the pre-eminent female American artist of the 20th century. Her work was first exhibited in 1917 by renowned photographer Alfred Steiglitz at his 291 Gallery in New York, where it created a sensation. She later married Steiglitz, whose unflagging support enabled O’Keeffe to focus on her extraordinary artistic talents.The artist spent the last forty years of her life in the desert of New Mexico finding inspiration in the rugged splendor of her surroundings. His family moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1833. He studied painting with the members of the Düsseldorf School in Düsseldorf, Germany from 1853 to 1857. He taught drawing and painting briefly before devoting himself to painting.\r\rBierstadt began making paintings in New England and upstate New York. In 1859, he traveled westward in the company of a Land Surveyor for the U.S. government, returning with sketches that would result in numerous finished paintings. In 1863 he returned West again, in the company of the author Fitz Hugh Ludlow, whose wife he would later marry. He continued to visit the American West throughout his career.\r\rThough his paintings sold for princely sums, Bierstadt was not held in particularly high esteem by critics of his day. His use of uncommonly large canvases was thought to be an egotistical indulgence, as his paintings would invariably dwarf those of his contemporaries when they were displayed together. The romanticism evident in his choices of subject and in his use of light was felt to be excessive by contemporary critics. His paintings emphasized atmospheric elements like fog, clouds and mist to accentuate and complement the feel of his work. Bierstadt sometimes changed details of the landscape to inspire awe. The colors he used are also not always true. He painted what he believed is the way things should be: water is ultramarine, vegetation is lush and green, etc. The shift from foreground to background was very dramatic and there was almost no middle distance.[citation needed]\r\rNonetheless, his paintings remain popular. He was a prolific artist, having completed over 500 (possibly as many as 4000) paintings during his lifetime, most of which have survived. Many are scattered through museums around the United States. Prints are available commercially for many. Original paintings themselves do occasionally come up for sale, at ever increasing prices.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0223/4033/products/B4269_0ab938b0-7030-489f-803e-75dea84e3d5f.jpg?v=1599037700
claude-monet-waterlilies-1907
Waterlilies, 1907
Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner\r
\r
About the Artist
Oscar Claude Monet is considered the archetypal Impressionist, with his devotion to painting the transient effects of light and color "en plein air" unwaveringly throughout his long career. Matisse/Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York

About the Artist
Matisse is often regarded as the most important French painter of the 20th century. As a master of supreme decoration and expressive use of color, his visionary experiments into different styles of painting from his impressionistic domestic and figurative subjects to his abstract cut-outs changed our perception of the world.Early in his career, Matisse was viewed as a Fauvist (a group of artists known as the "wild beasts"). His work gravitated to the beautiful and his celebration of bright colors reached its peak in 1917 when he began to spend time on the French Riviera at Nice and Vence. Matisse’s Fauvist years were superseded by an experimental period, as he abandoned three-dimensional effects in favor of dramatically simplified areas of pure color, flat shape and strong pattern.As a man of nervous temperament, he coaxed his anxious tension into serenity through painting. In his later years, Matisse moved into a period of selfless invention, creating his cut-outs carved in colored paper and sometimes collaged into vast pictures. The geometric rightness and color radiance of these pictures sum up his greatest gift: his innate knowledge of how colors and shapes could come to life spectacularly when set in context.
© 2026
Georgia O’Keeffe Museum / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York

About the Artist
The bold, poetic flower forms of Georgia O’Keeffe have become modern American classics. After his death, van Gogh's powerful compositions and expressive use of color greatly influenced Expressionism.
Poster © 2026
McGaw Graphics, Inc.

About the Artist
Generally considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt, van Gogh's striking and exuberant paintings were all produced during a period of only ten years.
