His work reflects a lifelong love of the natural landscape and of human nature. While many of David's photographs are inspired by his travels to Siberia, Peru, India, Nepal, and Tibet, most of his work is from Pennsylvania and more recently, the Pacific NW where he now resides.\n\nWinston's images have been exhibited in numerous one person and group exhibits nationally. The modern poster, as we know it dates back to 1870 when the printing industry perfected color lithography and made mass production possible. They have ranged in styles from Art Nouveau, Symbolism, Cubism, and Art Deco to the more formal Bauhaus and the hippie posters of the 1960s.Posters, in the form of placards and posted bills, have been used since earliest times, primarily for advertising and announcements. By the 1890s, the technique had spread throughout Europe. A number of noted artists created poster art in this period, foremost amongst them Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Jules Chéret. Chéret is considered to be the \"father\" of advertisement placards.Chéret developed a new lithographic technique that suited better the needs of advertisers: he added a lot more colour which, in conjunction with innovative typography, rendered the poster much more expressive. Posters soon transformed the thoroughfares of Paris into the \"art galleries of the street.\" Their commercial success was such that some of the artists were in great demand and theatre stars personally selected their own favorite artist to do the poster for an upcoming performance. The popularity of poster art was such that in 1884 a major exhibition was held in Paris.By the 1890s, poster art had widespread usage in other parts of Europe, advertising everything from bicycles to bullfights. By the end of the 19th century, during an era known as the Belle Époque, the standing of the poster as a serious artform was raised even further. Many posters, particularly early posters, were used for advertising products. Ray is highly regarded for his detailed rural landscapes and antique still lifes.  However, he explains, the real subject of my work is not the aging farm buildings, the rustic old mills or the antiqued crocks and jugs.  The real subject is their surfaces.  “I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware…the signs of wear and hard use.  How many stories they must have to tell”.  \rOver the years, Ray has developed a number of texturing methods to accurately depict these signs of aging.  He compiled many of them in a book titled, “Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors”, published by Northlight and released in November of 1999 (now out of print).\rRay’s work has been published, as prints, by Primrose Press, Galaxy of Graphics, and most recently, by Bruce McGaw Graphics.  His work has appeared in many books and magazines such as Splash 3, Splash 4, Splash 9, Palette Talk, Bucks Country Magazine, County Line Magazine, American Artist, Artist’s Magazine and Chinese Watercolor, an art magazine published in Beijing, China.\rRay is represented by several galleries in southeastern Pennsylvania.  He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (also awarded Sylvan Grouse Guild member status of the society), The Philadelphia Watercolor Society (recipient of the Crest Award for continued excellence), and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.  He has been the recipient of many awards for his work in national and international exhibitions and has had numerous one-man shows.  He is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”. Ray is highly regarded for his detailed rural landscapes and antique still lifes.  However, he explains, the real subject of my work is not the aging farm buildings, the rustic old mills or the antiqued crocks and jugs.  The real subject is their surfaces.  “I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware…the signs of wear and hard use.  How many stories they must have to tell”.  \rOver the years, Ray has developed a number of texturing methods to accurately depict these signs of aging.  He compiled many of them in a book titled, “Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors”, published by Northlight and released in November of 1999 (now out of print).\rRay’s work has been published, as prints, by Primrose Press, Galaxy of Graphics, and most recently, by Bruce McGaw Graphics.  His work has appeared in many books and magazines such as Splash 3, Splash 4, Splash 9, Palette Talk, Bucks Country Magazine, County Line Magazine, American Artist, Artist’s Magazine and Chinese Watercolor, an art magazine published in Beijing, China.\rRay is represented by several galleries in southeastern Pennsylvania.  He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (also awarded Sylvan Grouse Guild member status of the society), The Philadelphia Watercolor Society (recipient of the Crest Award for continued excellence), and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.  He has been the recipient of many awards for his work in national and international exhibitions and has had numerous one-man shows.  He is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”. Plein aire painting allows him to capture the light and color effects of creation’s order.  He frequently uses vivid colors and high-keyed values that reveal a spiritually inspired joy. Several Trips abroad, including China, Canada, and the Tuscan countryside, have also inspired many canvases. A contemplative, quiet individual, Robert discovered art as a way to freely express his feelings.  His practical background and belief in discipline led him to first earn a Bachelor of Science degree with teaching credentials in Art from Eastern Oregon State College and then a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Center School of Design in California.  At Art Center, Robert received a full scholarship and majored in Illustration and graduated with honors.\r\rRobert prefers painting ‘en plein aire’ to best express his immediate impression of each subject.  Plein aire painting allows him to capture the light and color effects of creation’s order.  He frequently uses vivid colors and high-keyed values that reveal a spiritually inspired joy. Robert’s paintings have a characteristic mood and energy about them that invite the viewer to experience the beauty he sees in nature. Several Trips abroad, including China, Canada, and the Tuscan countryside, have also inspired many canvases. In recent years, Robert has become a highly sought-after instructor and he teaches multiple workshops a year. He has been profiled in numerous magazine articles including Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, Big Sky Journal and Art of the West. Ray is highly regarded for his detailed rural landscapes and antique still lifes.  However, he explains, the real subject of my work is not the aging farm buildings, the rustic old mills or the antiqued crocks and jugs.  The real subject is their surfaces.  “I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware…the signs of wear and hard use.  How many stories they must have to tell”.  \rOver the years, Ray has developed a number of texturing methods to accurately depict these signs of aging.  He compiled many of them in a book titled, “Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors”, published by Northlight and released in November of 1999 (now out of print).\rRay’s work has been published, as prints, by Primrose Press, Galaxy of Graphics, and most recently, by Bruce McGaw Graphics.  His work has appeared in many books and magazines such as Splash 3, Splash 4, Splash 9, Palette Talk, Bucks Country Magazine, County Line Magazine, American Artist, Artist’s Magazine and Chinese Watercolor, an art magazine published in Beijing, China.\rRay is represented by several galleries in southeastern Pennsylvania.  He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (also awarded Sylvan Grouse Guild member status of the society), The Philadelphia Watercolor Society (recipient of the Crest Award for continued excellence), and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.  He has been the recipient of many awards for his work in national and international exhibitions and has had numerous one-man shows.  He is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”. A self taught artist, he headed to Paris in 1898 to join other artists of his period. He immediately started painting caricatures for the French publication Le Rire. This precipitated a string of assignments with the French newspapers. In 1900, he signed a contract to do poster designs for the poster publisher Vercasson. Gradually his style developed so that his images were created using solid lines and strong flat color. His contribution to poster design contemporized this popular art form. Inspired by Cassandre and other well-known poster designers, Cappiello became involved with the poster scene in Paris. Ray is highly regarded for his detailed rural landscapes and antique still lifes.  However, he explains, the real subject of my work is not the aging farm buildings, the rustic old mills or the antiqued crocks and jugs.  The real subject is their surfaces.  “I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware…the signs of wear and hard use.  How many stories they must have to tell”.  \rOver the years, Ray has developed a number of texturing methods to accurately depict these signs of aging.  He compiled many of them in a book titled, “Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors”, published by Northlight and released in November of 1999 (now out of print).\rRay’s work has been published, as prints, by Primrose Press, Galaxy of Graphics, and most recently, by Bruce McGaw Graphics.  His work has appeared in many books and magazines such as Splash 3, Splash 4, Splash 9, Palette Talk, Bucks Country Magazine, County Line Magazine, American Artist, Artist’s Magazine and Chinese Watercolor, an art magazine published in Beijing, China.\rRay is represented by several galleries in southeastern Pennsylvania.  He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (also awarded Sylvan Grouse Guild member status of the society), The Philadelphia Watercolor Society (recipient of the Crest Award for continued excellence), and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.  He has been the recipient of many awards for his work in national and international exhibitions and has had numerous one-man shows.  He is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art”. Guggenheim Award given by the Salmagundi Club of N.Y.  He has had many successful one-man shows in leading galleries across America.  His work has been in museum shows and on magazine covers.  Some of his paintings hang in important private collections as well as the corporate collections of IBM, Chase, CBS, Raymond James and many others.  With the advent of the publishing of his work as limited editions and posters, he is now one of the most collected artists in America. The real subject is their surfaces. \"I am intrigued by the texture of a crumbling stone wall, the splintered wood of an old wagon or the way the light reflects off a piece of hand-turned stoneware‚Ķthe signs of wear and hard use. How many stories they must have to tell‚Äù. Over the years, Ray has developed a number of texturing methods to accurately depict these signs of aging. He compiled many of them in a book titled, \"Texture Techniques for Winning Watercolors‚Äù, published by Northlight and released in November of 1999 (now out of print). Ray' s work has been published, as prints, by Primrose Press, Galaxy of Graphics, and most recently, by Bruce McGaw Graphics. His work has appeared in many books and magazines such as Splash 3, Splash 4, Splash 9, Palette Talk, Bucks Country Magazine, County Line Magazine, American Artist, Artist' s Magazine and Chinese Watercolor, an art magazine published in Beijing, China. Ray is represented by several galleries in southeastern Pennsylvania. He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (also awarded Sylvan Grouse Guild member status of the society), The Philadelphia Watercolor Society (recipient of the Crest Award for continued excellence), and the International Society of Acrylic Painters. His practical background and belief in discipline led him to first earn a Bachelor of Science degree with teaching credentials in Art from Eastern Oregon State College and then a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Center School of Design in California. At Art Center, Robert received a full scholarship and majored in Illustration and graduated with honors. Robert prefers painting ‘en plein aire’ to best express his immediate impression of each subject. Plein aire painting allows him to capture the light and color effects of creation’s order. He frequently uses vivid colors and high-keyed values that reveal a spiritually inspired joy. Robert’s paintings have a characteristic mood and energy about them that invite the viewer to experience the beauty he sees in nature. Several Trips abroad, including China, Canada, and the Tuscan countryside, have also inspired many canvases. In recent years, Robert has become a highly sought-after instructor and he teaches multiple workshops a year. He has been profiled in numerous magazine articles including Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, Big Sky Journal and Art of the West. Robert was also selected in 2012 to receive the Governor's Award for the state of Idaho for Excellence in the Arts.
