His English parents intended for him to go into the financial industry, but Sisley chose instead to dedicate himself to painting.\r\rSisley has been compared to his longtime friend and colleague, Claude Monet, whom he met while studying at the Gleyre studio in Paris in the early 1860s. Like Monet, Sisley devoted most of his career to painting Impressionistic landscapes.\r\rSisley's style differed somewhat from that of the Impressionist school; his brushstroke was firm and created a higher definition of form, a technique reminiscent of English landscape painters. Most of his paintings, however, are of scenes in and around Paris. His most significant series of landscapes depict the flood of 1876 at Port-Marley. He was able to record diverse light effects by painting in the open-air at different times of the day.\r\rAlthough Sisley contributed to many of the Impressionistic exhibitions, he never received the recognition of his peers while he was alive. His vivid recollections of Russian Jewish village scenes and incidents in his private life were treated with a touch of humor and fantasy. Strong, bright colors portray the world with a dreamlike, non-realistic simplicity and surreal inventiveness. This fusion of fantasy, religion and nostalgia filled his work with a childlike, joyous quality.Born in what is now Belarus, Chagall studied art in St. Petersburg. From 1910-14 he lived in Paris and absorbed the works of leading Cubist, Surrealist and Fauvist painters. From 1918-19 he was director of the Art Academy in Vitsyebsk and then became art director of the Moscow Jewish State Theater, where he painted several murals in the theater lobby and executed sets for several productions. In 1923, he moved permanently to France, except for a brief residence in the U.S. during World War II.Chagall expanded to other forms of art including ceramics, mosaics and stained glass. The work is about color, immediacy and an intuitive response to the world around her. What seemed like an experiment at the start seems now like a natural drawing together of many threads of my life: my traditional art style, my faith, and my fascination with our artistic and cultural history.\r\rHaving taken my first lessons at the Philadelphia Art Museum before entering grade school, I can't remember life before art. I went on to earn a B.F.A. from Denison University. Then while working in an antique and decorating shop, I began painting naive portraits of children (real and imaginary).\r\rIn researching the portraits, I encountered other folk art forms: landscapes, still lifes, theorem paintings, stenciling and faux graining, needlework, sculpture, scherenschnitte, etc. I became fascinated with the stylizations, the colors, the textures, and the crackled and aged finishes. The feeling of peace, light-heartedness, and friendly openness I found there resonated with me.\r\rIncorporating subjects, forms, and techniques from 18th and 19th century folk art, I gradually developed a personal style to apply to not only portraits, but landscapes and still lifes as well. Many pieces are inspired by short verses from the Bible.\r\rMy paintings are original compositions on gessoed fiberboard, plastic laminate, wood, canvas, or paper. I work with acrylics in two basic styles: one resembling watercolors and the other, oils. Appropriately, it is one of his pictures, Impression: Sunrise, which gave the group of artists painting in this style its name.\r\rBorn in Paris, Monet attended L’Academie Suisse from 1859-60 and subsequently enrolled in the studio of Glenyre, where he met Renoir and Sisley, with whom he formed the nucleus of the Impressionist group. He organized the first Impressionist exhibit in 1874 and became the group’s leader, initiator and unswerving advocate. Monet moved to Giverny in 1883, planting the extensive gardens and lily ponds that would provide the inspiration for his later works.\r\rFrom 1890 he concentrated on a series of pictures in which he painted the same subject at different times of the day in different light. The most popular of these are the Haystacks and Rouen Cathedral series. He continued to travel widely, visiting London and Venice several times, yet increasingly he focused his attention on Giverny. His Post-Impressionist work hauntingly conveyed through forceful color, aggressive brushwork and contoured forms, the anguish of a mental illness that eventually resulted in suicide. After failing in both his career and love life, van Gogh turned inward, pursuing a position in the ministry. In 1880, disenchanted with priesthood, he discovered art as his new mission. The artist's earliest works were scenes of peasant life, but after a trip to Paris in 1886, where he encountered the works of the Impressionists and the Japanese prints en vogue at the time, he dramatically transformed his style from darkly colored realism to vibrant expressionism.Inspired by the beauty of rural Arles, he moved there in 1888, but continued to struggle with nervous crisis and depression, and after one particularly severe episode, committed himself to an asylum at St. Remy. While hospitalized, he continued to paint and produced one of his most compelling works, The Starry Night. In 1861, against the wishes of his father, he followed Zola to Paris to become a painter and met Camille Pissarro and others of the Impressionist group. He remained an outsider to their circle because his earliest works, which exhibition committees consistently rejected, were Expressionistic. In the early 1870s he experimented with Impressionism, then later delved into Classicism, with more balanced and formal compositions. Toward the end of his life he was at his most daring, reducing architecture and figures to geometric forms and paving the way for Cubism.\r\rCezanne was an artist's artist, and his restrained pictures are impersonal and remote - much like his personality. His art, misunderstood and discredited by the public during most of his life, eventually challenged all the conventional values of painting in the 19th century through his insistence on personal expression and on the integrity of the painting itself. Pissarro's leading motifs during the 1870s and 1880s were houses, factories, trees, haystacks, fields, labouring peasants, and river scenes. In these works, forms do not dissolve but remain firm, and colours are strong; during the latter part of the 1870s his comma-like brushstrokes frequently recorded the sparkling scintillation of light. These works were admired by the Impressionist artists; Pissarro was the only Impressionist painter who participated in all eight of the group's exhibitions. Despite acute eye trouble, his later years were his most prolific.\r
© 2026
DAG, Inc., Atlanta, USA

About the Artist
Born in Russia, Eric participated frequently in art programs and published his work in children's magazines, continually meeting with enthusiastic response. The artist's earliest works were scenes of peasant life, but after a trip to Paris in 1886, where he encountered the works of the Impressionists and the Japanese prints en vogue at the time, he dramatically transformed his style from darkly colored realism to vibrant expressionism. Inspired by the beauty of rural Arles, he moved there in 1888, but continued to struggle with nervous crisis and depression, and after one particularly severe episode, committed himself to an asylum at St. Remy. While hospitalized, he continued to paint and produced one of his most compelling works, The Starry Night. After his death, van Gogh's powerful compositions and expressive use of color greatly influenced Expressionism.

Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner

Product Detail

Overall: 16" H x 13" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, white, and gold

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

About the Artist

Alfred Sisley, a French Impressionist painter, was born in Paris in 1839. His English parents intended for him to go into the financial industry, but Sisley chose instead to dedicate himself to painting. Sisley has been compared to his longtime friend and colleague, Claude Monet, whom he met while studying at the Gleyre studio in Paris in the early 1860s. Like Monet, Sisley devoted most of his career to painting Impressionistic landscapes. Sisley's style differed somewhat from that of the Impressionist school; his brushstroke was firm and created a higher definition of form, a technique reminiscent of English landscape painters. Most of his paintings, however, are of scenes in and around Paris. His most significant series of landscapes depict the flood of 1876 at Port-Marley. He was able to record diverse light effects by painting in the open-air at different times of the day. Although Sisley contributed to many of the Impressionistic exhibitions, he never received the recognition of his peers while he was alive.

Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner

Product Detail

Overall: 13" H x 16" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, white, and gold

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

About the Artist

Camille Pissarro (born July 10, 1830, St. Thomas, Danish West Indies — died Nov. 13, 1903, Paris, France) was a West Indian-born French painter. In 1871 he took a house in Pontoise, in the countryside outside Paris. These surroundings formed the theme of his art for some 30 years. Despite acute eye trouble, his later years were his most prolific.

Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner

Product Detail

Overall: 13" H x 16" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, white, and gold

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

About the Artist

Oscar Claude Monet is considered the archetypal Impressionist, with his devotion to painting the transient effects of light and color "en plein air" unwaveringly throughout his long career. Among his most famous building decorations are the ceiling of the Paris Opera House, two murals in the lobby of the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, a glass window at the United Nations in New York and decorations in the Vatican.

Product Detail

Overall: 16" H x 13" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High-quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, gold, and white

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

Image is Copyrighted and Property of its respective owner\r

Product Detail

Overall: 13" H x 16" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, white, and gold

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

\r
\r
About the Artist
Regarded by many as the first truly modern artist, Paul Cezanne transformed the ideals of 19th century painting and influenced the aesthetic development of many 20th century artists and art movements, especially Cubism.\r\rBorn in Aix-en-Provence to wealthy parents, he befriended the novelist Emile Zola as a schoolboy. After his death, van Gogh's powerful compositions and expressive use of color greatly influenced Expressionism.

Product Detail

Overall: 16" H x 13" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High-quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, gold, and white

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

© 2026
The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC; Acquired 1949

Product Detail

Overall: 13" H x 16" W x 0.75" D

Overall Product Weight: 2.5lb.

Material: Glass

High quality print on heavy paper

Printed with vibrant, color-fast inks

Framed in a contemporary style molding; available in black, white, and gold

Sawtooth hanger

Unmatted

About the Artist
Generally considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt, van Gogh's striking and exuberant paintings were all produced during a period of only ten years. Remy.
