About the Artist

Artist Cole Johnson is a native of upstate New York, now residing in a small town in the Catskill mountain region. He enjoys spending time in the woods, hunting and fishing; activities that lead him to become intimately acquainted with species he encounters such as white-tailed deer, trout, turkeys, hunting dogs and waterfowl. Johnson went on to study art in college, graduating from SUNY Buffalo in 1991 with a BFA with a concentration in Painting. Although he has worked with oils, Johnson prefers to work in graphite powder. “The contrast of black and white appeals to me,” says Cole. “I enjoy the challenge of making a drawing come to life based solely on tonal value.” In addition to numerous local and regional shows, Johnson continues to broaden his exposure nationally by attending shows such as the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina and the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, Maryland. In addition, Johnson has been juried into prestigious exhibits around the United States & has received numerous awards for his work.
