Brillo Box (3¢ Off) is HBO’s latest documentary film by Lisanne Skyler, who takes a look at Andy Warhol’s ascent in the art world through personal accounts relating to one of the artist’s iconic images. The film focuses on the titular work from 1964 which was purchased by Skyler’s father in 1969 for $1,000. Skyler traces the transfer of ownership of this work through the years as Warhol’s work continued to increase in price at auction, eventually selling for more than $3 million at a Christie’s auction in 2010.
