Canadian artist Erica Hawkes creates brilliant contemporary landscapes full of movement and color. Hawkes paints in a few different styles including ‘Cubist Impressionism’, separating the colors of a scene and painting the elements using geometric shapes and lines. Another style Hawkes uses is “Nouveau 7”, where she borrows elements from Canada’s famed “Group of Seven” and the beautiful flowing lines of the turn of the century Art Nouveau moment.
Throughout her career, she has worked in a variety of media including graphite, acrylic, watercolor, India ink, and oil. In addition to working full time as a painter, Hawkes has also been an illustrator, portrait artist, teacher, and photographer.
Art is a true passion for Hawkes, and she enjoys every step of the process beginning with taking photographs for future works, to sketching, and the final laying down of paint.
