Jim Dugan lives and works on the coast of Maine, where he spends as much time as possible on or near the ocean. After college in journalism and a career at small newspapers, he realized that his true passion was photography so he moved to Maine to study at the Maine Photographic Workshops (now Maine Media Workshops and College).
He fell in love with Maine, learned to sea kayak and got a license as a Maine Guide to lead kayak trips. A friendship with owners of a traditional windjammer got him started with sailing and he now sails a few weeks every summer, attempting to capture the timelessness of these classic vessels. He’s worked as schooner crew and finds great satisfaction in knowing the ropes, climbing the rigging, and rowing the small boats.
