About the Artist

Robert Heindel has used London’s Royal Opera House’s rehearsal rooms as a base to visit with ballet companies from all around the world. He translates his relationship with the dancers and their lives into unique compositions which capture intimate "snapshots" of their existence. He considers himself lucky for doing what he loves for over twenty years. He comments on how he has been able to "release my own emotions and life experiences (through) the drama and emotion of dance." Robert Heindel is married and has children. Several years ago he experienced the devastating loss of his son, Toby, to cancer. He says that "the consequence has been a certain development in my work my figures are perhaps more grasping, earnest, reflective of my loss, while on the other hand, many have a flowing, ethereal quality which I guess is my coming to terms with the spirit of Toby’s life." Admirers of Heindel’s work circle the globe because his artwork conveys a passion for ballet that is universal in its reach.
