Robert John Thornton was an English physician and botanical writer, noted for “A New Illustration of the Sexual System of Carolus von Linnaeus (1807)”, considered by many to be the greatest of all flower books. This book included “The Temple of Flora”, which is the third and final part of the book which included floral images that have become widely popular for their sumptuous renderings and intriguing settings.
