About the Artist

Jean Noe Clark graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in home economics and a minor in creative writing. She also is a graduate of Tobe-Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York. Following her studies, Jean became the fashion editor of the Chicago's American newspaper until leaving that position to start a family. Looking for a creative outlet, she renewed a long-time flirtation with art and began painting in watercolor. While she maintained a career as a freelance feature writer for the Chicago Tribune and other Chicago-area publications she continued to pursue her painting. As her medium expanded to include oil, oil pastel and acrylic, Jean exhibited in shows and galleries in northern Illinois; she also taught watercolor painting and was a college guest lecturer. After moving to North Carolina, Jean continued to paint and exhibit and has donated her time and talent to paint three murals in public buildings. She has received many awards, including several purchase awards. Her paintings hang in libraries, offices and homes in northern Illinois and central North Carolina. Jean especially enjoys painting figurative and abstract subjects, as well as Spanish and Tuscan landscapes, vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains, interiors with light shining through them and the intriguing windows of old houses and antique shops.
