About the Artist

John La Farge was an American painter, muralist, stained glass window maker, decorator and writer. He decided to study art after his first visit to Paris in 1856. Along with painting and engraving, La Farge worked extensively in the medium of stained glass. His pieces were comparable to medieval windows, with the added beauty of opalescent glass and his original methods of layering and welding the glass.
