In November we introduced new contemporary artist Karen Mathison Schmidt with a selection of her beautiful bold floral works. Now, after months of adoring her luminous landscapes silently within the walls of McGaw Graphics we can now share these images with you. Karen’s landscapes are a testament to her faith. She finds endless inspiration for her art in the visual blessings of their daily life and in the landscape surrounding her home in Northern Louisiana: woods and tree-studded pastures, country roads, ponds and bayous.
Working in oils and acrylics on gessoed hardboard, Karen uses both brushes and painting knives to build up glazes of transparent color. She finishes her works with layers of opaque color painted loosely so that the vivid first layers show through in places. The depth and luminosity of the finished paintings is reminiscent of stained glass, lending the works a sublime aura. View the Karen Mathison Schmidt Landscape Collection.
