Sotheby’s of London will have Wassily Kandinsky’s Bild mit weissen Linien, 1913 up for auction for the first time as part of their Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale on June 21, 2017. This piece is of particular importance because it was painted in the same year that significant works Komposition VI and Komposition VII were created, all of which illustrate Kandinsky’s mastery of abstract painting. It was during this time that Kandinsky started creating paintings as though they were musical compositions, translating musical composition into color, marking every color with a certain emotion or “sound”. Because of the significance of this work and its influence on 20th century art, the painting is expected to sell at auction for over $35 million. See the Kandsinky Poster Collection.
